Offensive Language in the Workplace

We have a great employee who keeps his head down and is usually efficient in the way that he works. We never have any issues with this employee he just comes to work does his job well and then goes home. He is always on time and does what is asked of him, the employee is very religious but this has never been an issue.

This week the employee has written to complain that he is unhappy with the language that is being used around him and the stories that other employees tell during the break period which he finds offensive.

He has said that he does not want to get anyone into trouble but he is unhappy with what is being said. He has given examples of some of the issues and has provided dates and times and has photographs of some of the comments that have been made which appear to relate to his choice of religion.

What if anything should we do, the employee works in a workshop environment and surely he should expect some banter?

We now have no engine having paid the purchase price. Despite several calls the company does not answer the telephone.

Our customer is asking for their car to be repaired, what can we do?

We have just been offered a new contract, if we agree the terms we will be required to purchase all our parts from one supplier who supplies non OE parts. The contract also specifies that we are required to charge the Manufacturer’s Recommended Retail Price, ‘MRRP’, for non OE parts.

Is it ok to fit non OE panels and charge as if they were genuine?
